Baseball/Softball Scorekeeper App

This article provides steps on how to start and score a baseball or softball game on the ScoreVision Baseball Scorekeeper App.

Setting Up a Baseball/Softball Season in the Cloud

1. Log in to the cloud using your ScoreVision credentials. Click on COMPETITIONS & EVENTS from the menu on the left and then scroll down to choose ADD/VIEW ALL SEASONS.

2. Click on ADD NEW SEASON in the main window and choose BASEBALL from the drop-down menu.

3. Type a name for your season, choose a start date and end date, and set the gender. NOTE: We recommend overshooting your end date to ensure you account for the possibility of playoffs or other games that may occur after the conclusion of the scheduled regular season.

4. Scroll down to Game Settings.  Here you can select the number of innings, clock type, and countdown duration. You can also add social media information.  Then click on the EXPAND button next to Communication Settings.

5. Under Communication Settings, click on the check box if your organization is using Fan App.  Then press SAVE at the top of the screen.

Adding Teams and Games in the Cloud

1. After saving the season details above, you will see the page dedicated to adding Teams and Games. This process is consistent with adding teams and games in our other ScoreVision sports. Click on MANAGE TEAMS and then ADD TEAM.

2. Complete the team information by entering name, short name, uploading a team logo, selecting the team color, gender, and grade/level. NOTE: Choose YES or NO from the My Team dropdown menu to indicate if this is your organization's team. YES will enable schedules and rosters to be available in the ScoreVision Fan App.  NO will indicate this is a visiting team. Then click SAVE at the bottom of the screen.

3. Next add players to the Player Roster. Complete the first name, last name, and jersey number fields and you also have the option of uploading a 500 x 750px player image. Then click SAVE or ADD ANOTHER if you have more players to enter. If you have several players you want to enter you can use the Roster import to enter them.

4. Once your teams are entered, click on GAMES from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen and then ADD GAME.

Enter the date and start time for the game by clicking on the start time field.  A calendar pops up and the left and right arrows can be clicked to change months.  At the bottom, you see a clock icon.  Click on the clock button to set the start time of the game.

Select the home and away teams and then review the game details. Details created for the season will default for the game settings but can be changed as needed if you so choose. Then click SAVE and you will see the game appear in your list of games. NOTE: Games that have been completed have a red stripe at the top of their tile while games that are upcoming have a blue stripe. Once all of your games have been added, you are ready to score your games using the ScoreVision Baseball App on the iPad.

Connecting Your Scorekeeper App to a Scoreboard Display

1. Log in to your Scorekeeper App using your ScoreVision credentials.  If you want to connect the Scorekeeper app to a display, ensure that the YES tab is selected. Then, press CONNECT on your display of choice (generally, you will select SV-1, but SV-2 also works; naming may vary based on your facility). If you do not want to connect to a display, refer to #2 below.

2. If you do not want to connect the Scorekeeper app to a display, ensure that the NO tab is selected. The most common reason for choosing NO is when you scoring at an away game in order to send information to the ScoreVision Fan App. To do this, you will need a source of wifi such as a hotspot or a connection to the wifi in the facility you are visiting.

4. A list of available pre-made seasons will appear in a pop-up window. Select the season that you want to use. NOTE: If Default Season/Tournament is the only season available in this list, seasons will need to be created as explained earlier in this article.

5. If you have previously-entered games in the cloud, a list of those games will appear in the open space below the filter menus and the settings you defined in the cloud will be automatically applied. Games will be sorted by start date and time, the nearest upcoming meet first. Press SELECT to begin the game of your choice. NOTE: Games created in the cloud will be visible 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time. If you need help creating games in the cloud, please refer to the beginning portions of this article. Another option is to press the ADD NEW GAME button and manually create a game on the iPad.

6. Press one of the team names on the left of the screen to begin setting lineups. Players created in your cloud account will be automatically downloaded or use the top of the screen to add a new player to the roster.

7. Use the dropdown menu for each spot in the lineup to select a player. A pop-up of available players that have not yet been added to the lineup will appear.  Then use the position drop down menu to select a position for each player in the lineup.

NOTE: If DH is selected for one of the players, an extra box to indicate the pitcher will appear.

7. Once you’re done preparing your lineups, press START GAME.

Pre-Game Clock

1. Once you’ve started the game, a scoreboard assistant for PRE-GAME CLOCK will appear giving you three options for pre-game:

  • set clock to default time,
  • set clock to custom time, or
  • I am ready to keep score, skipping pre-game all together

NOTE: The Pre-Game option from the MENU can be selected to restart the pre-game clock as many times as you need but will disappear from the menu once you start keeping score for this game.

Scorekeeping During the Game

1. If there are any changes that need to be made to the lineup, press TEAM LINEUP in the middle of the screen and the lineup wing will open.

Press the pencil icon on the bottom to edit player details such as first and last names as well as the jersey number. If a player was not suited up or has to be taken out of the game for any reason, you can press "N" under the SUITED UP option for that player. This will remove that player from the game roster. You can also add players to the roster by pressing the + icon.  Press SAVE to apply any changes or press the pencil icon to close the edit menu. To exit the lineup wing, press the arrow button.

2. Use the BALL and STRIKE buttons to update the batter’s count. Each press of the BALL and STRIKE buttons will increase the pitch count for the opposing pitcher. The BALL button will automatically change to WALK once a batter has three (3) balls applied to his count to alert the scorekeeper that one more press of the button will result in a walk. Likewise, the STRIKE button will automatically change to STRIKEOUT once two (2) strikes have been applied to the count.

3. Use the buttons on the right side of the ScoreVision Baseball Scorekeeper App to assign a HIT, OUT, REACHED ON ERROR, HIT BY PITCH (WITH PITCH) or INTENTIONAL WALK. Each of these buttons will add a pitch to the opposing pitcher’s pitch count. The FOUL BALL button will also add a pitch to the count and will mark a strike on the batter's count if it is not the third strike.

 4. The current batter and on deck batter can be identified by the numbers at the plate and in the on deck circle at the bottom of the screen. If, for whatever reason you need to advance to the next batter in the lineup, press the ON DECK button. Doing this will not affect the pitch count, so use the QUICK EDIT button to correct any scorekeeping errors.  More information about the QUICK EDIT button is explained later in this article.

5. When a runner scores, use the RUN SCORED button to add a run to the batting team.

6. Press the ERROR button to apply a fielding error to the defensive team.

7. At any point, if a player is on a base, you can press that base, and the offensive team's color will appear. To remove a base runner, press on the circle again.

Freezing the board

1. Press the FREEZE BOARD button at the top right of the screen to freeze the ScoreVision display as you see it. This pauses any actions made on the Baseball Scorekeeper App. Any actions made on the Baseball Scorekeeper App while the display is frozen will be seen on the display once UNFREEZE is selected.

2. To freeze ad sequences running on your display, click the paused SEQUENCES button located on the bottom of both the right and left side of the Baseball Scorekeeper App. This will allow you to show actions taken on the Baseball Scorekeeper App but will not rotate through the ads. To unfreeze the ad sequences, click the play SEQUENCES at the bottom of the app.

Quick Edit and Undo

1. The UNDO button allows you to undo in order of how actions were entered. The two buttons perform the same function but are conveniently placed for left or right-handed scorekeepers.  The most recent action is indicated in the space between the buttons to help the scorekeeper know which action will be undone.

2. At any point throughout the match, you can use QUICK EDIT to edit team names, team colors, pitch counts, hits, errors, inning, outs, balls, and strikes. You must press SAVE afterward to establish any changes made on the Quick Edit screen.

Ending a Game

1. If the home team is leading in the middle of the ninth inning, a scoreboard assistant will appear to give you three choices:

  • end game,
  • I need to make changes, or
  • play bottom inning

    • END GAME will archive the game in the cloud and you will be unable to access or change the data moving forward.
    • I NEED TO MAKE CHANGES will allow you to return to scorekeeping where you can utilize the quick edit or undo features to correct any mistakes.
    • PLAY BOTTOM INNING will return to active scorekeeping so that the bottom of the inning can be scored if you so choose.

2. If at anytime during the game you would like to exit the game, press the X button in the upper right corner. A window will appear giving you these 3 options:

  • save & close out game,
  • save & leave game open, or
  • cancel

    • Save & close out game will archive the game in the cloud and you will be unable to access and change data at a future time.
    • Save & leave game open leaves the game available to access even after you have closed the app.  This option may be needed if you need to leave the Scorekeeper App for whatever reason but wish to continue scoring the game when you log back in.
    • Cancel will return you to the scorekeeping screen with no changes.
